Microcapsules and functional particulate carrier systems make an important contribution to improving the sustainability of products. The required amount of, for example, biocides, pesticides, fertilizers, lubricants and perfume oils can be significantly reduced in microencapsulated or coated form without affecting the product performance. Thus, microencapsulation or particle coating are important measures in the sense of environmental protection. Polymers are used as capsule wall, carrier and coating materials predominantly.
Potential and problems in the use of biodegradable polymers as capsule wall and coating material will be presented and discussed during the workshop.
