Rapid prototyping by laser structuring
Three-dimensional structures can be inscribed in polymer solids through photo-crosslinking using various technologies. Laser-assisted multiphoton polymerization and stereolithographic techniques are suitable for this.
The development of materials needed to do this is currently focusing on synthesizing acrylate-based reactive resins which are used for producing artificial vascular systems using spatially-resolved stereolithography. Biocompatibility is at the heart of the investigation. The material combinations provide a further possibility for adjusting the mechanical properties from soft and elastic to rigid depending on the degree of crosslinking. Additional potential areas of application for these materials and technologies can be found in the field of microsystem technology.
