UV-VIS-NIR spectrometry

Analyte

  • Solid and liquid macro- and low-molecular substances, polymer dispersions, solutions, layers on substrates

Equipment

  • equipment: UV-VIS-NIR double-beam spectrometer Lambda 19 (Perkin-Elmer)
  • Wave length range: 200 nm - 3200 nm
  • Accessories: solid sample holder with adjustable incident angle (0 °C - 60 °C), cuvettes, polarizer, reflection units for solid (6 °C) and variable incident angle (15 °C - 70 °C)
  • Sample sizes (without the use of masks): solid samples/transmission:
min. ca. 8 mm x 20 mm, solid samples/reflection: unit with stable angle,
    min. 20 mm x 20 mm / max. 100 mm x 100 mm, unit with variable angle,
    min. 25 mm x 25 mm / max. 55 mm x 55 mm

Analysis methods and response values

  • Measuring of transmission and reflection spectra

Aim

  • Determining the wave length and the intensity of absorption bands and their changes due to chemical and/or physical processes
  • Investigations concerning the light-induced decomposition of substances
  • Characterization of solutions
  • Determination of absorbance indices
  • Examination of the absorption properties of dyes and other additives
