At ILA Berlin 2026, the PYCO research division of Fraunhofer IAP will present innovative approaches for functionalized lightweight structures in aviation.
The focus is on a full-scale sidewall panel used as sidewall cladding in aircraft cabins. The exhibit is based on a sandwich structure made of glass-fiber-reinforced composites. Using a precise piezojet printing process, conductive structures made of silver ink were applied directly onto the component and functionally integrated. The exhibit demonstrates how structural lightweight components can be combined with additional functionalities without significantly increasing weight or installation space.
In addition, the research division will present a hydrogen tank as a technology demonstrator, providing insights into the safety requirements of future hydrogen storage systems.
