Renewable substitute for neoprene

Sustainable foam made from renewable raw materials

As part of the project, we are developing an innovative, bio-based foam as an environmentally friendly alternative to petroleum-based neoprene. The goal is to create a high-performance, future-oriented material that replaces fossil resources and promotes sustainable production pathways – contributing to a more eco-friendly and resource-efficient industry.

From Forest Residues to High-Performance Material

The material is produced from tannins and furfuryl alcohol – both by-products of the forestry industry. Through modification with bio-based fatty acid derivatives, a flexible, cross-linked structure is created, offering excellent mechanical properties and thermal insulation.

Thanks to this unique combination, the bio-based foam is suitable for a wide range of applications:

  • Automotive: Soundproofing and interior insulation
  • Electronics industry: Thermal and electrical insulation
  • Sports and fashion industry: Functional clothing and neoprene alternatives
  • Construction: Water and structural sealing
