Thermoplastic starch

Thermoplastic starches (TPS) are manufactured on an industrial basis by adding plasticizers and are made into packaging materials using biodegradable polymers. A thermoplasticity of the starch product is achieved without adding plasticizers through esterification with long-chain substituents with degrees of substitution greater than 1.5. New biobased materials can be developed based on starch esters.
