  • Intelligent Catering via RFID

In the joint research project "iC-RFID - Intelligent Catering via RFID" the whole processing chain in aviation catering was being analyzed. New service concepts have been developed into a system mock-up. In particular the consistent use of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) along the whole process chain was the aim of the project.

A consortium managed by Airbus Operations, joined by EADS, Fraunhofer IAO and Fraunhofer PYCO as well as the University of Applied Sciences Cologne, autoID systems, B&W Engineering and MGS - Modular Galley Systems stood out for longtime experience and expertise in aviation, RFID, processing standardization as well as middleware, airline catering systems and aircraft equipment.

Fraunhofer PYCO has developed a "Digital Flight Label" as a bistable liquid crystal display that visualizes the data of the RFID-tag, so that in logistics one-way-labels could be replaced by this re-usable electronic solution.

The project "iC-RFID - Intelligent Catering via RFID" was funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology with the support code 01MT06006.
