ASSOSS - Adjustable Support Structure for Optical Sensors in Satellites

Innovative, Modular and Adjustable Assembly System in Lightweight Design

ASSOSS is a novel structure designed to provide structural support and efficient thermal management for optical space sensors, developed in a joint venture between Space Structures GmbH, BTU Cottbus – Senftenberg, and Fraunhofer IAP.

In addition to the considerable weight savings and the resulting increase in payload, the modular approach significantly reduces the time required for development, production and verification. The assembly system consists of the following components: The novel assembly structure in ultra-lightweight design with an innovative connection system (sub-project Space Structures GmbH) and the thermal management system consisting of the innovative flexible thermal strap in hybrid lightweight design.

What do we do?

We develop energy-efficient and sustainable lightweight systems and materials that have to meet the high demands of aerospace technology, energy technology or vehicle construction.

Tailored Materials

We synthesize new polymers and develop new resin formulations. The focus is on fiber composites based on duromer reactive resins and thermoplastics.

Design and Manufacturing Technologies

For complex structural parts and entire components, we calculate, design, simulate and characterize them and develop recycling and repair processes that are suitable for the material.
