In the RUBIO project, the Fraunhofer IAP, together with partners from research and industry in central Germany, is turning the vision of a sustainable plastics industry into reality.
Regionally available plant residues are used to create versatile sustainable products - e.g. textiles, cladding parts or packaging - that are recyclable and biodegradable.
Novel types of the bioplastic polybutylene succinate (PBS)
As part of the project, Fraunhofer IAP and its partners are developing novel types of the bioplastic polybutylene succinate (PBS) so that it can be used for significantly more applications. To this end, we are pooling our expertise in polymer synthesis, process development and optimization, polymer processing and scale-up. In this way, we are driving the transition from a linear to a sustainable and circular plastics economy to secure critical resources in the long term.
